Ground floor living space is the most precious because it gets used the most and it makes perfect sense to look into doing a garage conversion simply because it works out far cheaper than doing a regular house extension.
In many cases the garage is holding loads of junk that could be easily disposed of or relocated to a garden shed or attic. Just imagine, another room on the ground floor that can be used as a play room, an office, a tv room or even a bedroom with bathroom en-suite.
Many garage conversions do not require a planning application, they do require building regulations approval, but you will need to check with your local planning office to make sure before you carry out any work.
